It's is a silent enemy with unlimited power

Why keep it inside and let it devour?

It's an unseen thing that will destroy your life

It has rendered many families much misery and strife,

It consumes your waking hours, it disrupts your dreams

It creates many burdens, it directs many schemes.

It tempts with its hatred, revenge, and despair.

It thrives on unhappiness, and gives it no care.

It's a cancer that manifests in a cold empty heart

It uses no rationale, and it controls from the start.

It's quick and it's quiet and takes over at random.

It feasts on bad thoughts, good thoughts 'twill abandon.

It's an incurable emotion if left long unattended

It will destroy your friendships 'till they can't be mended.

It's easy to ignore and think it will go away.

And if you pretend it's not there, it grows bigger each day.

So if in you this silent enemy quietly begins to haunt
